The Cartoon
This was an in-house commercial for a new French multiplex. The architecture of the building is impressive – the public spaces are big, a bit magical, designed to take you back to childhood. The client wanted us to celebrate this.
We used conventional animation, rather than the modern “Toy Story” stuff, to enhance the feeling of nostalgia. And of course we story-boarded it and batted it back and forth with the client until we had exactly what they wanted. Key points – the day-time showings, the number of screens – had to be put across subliminally.
We gave them an animation that did the building justice and picked up on the sense of magic – which was what they wanted.
